Preparation for Event Volunteering (Personal Best)


Who is this course for?
Anyone who is currently unemployed and looking to improve their work skills in order to get back into work. students will be given the opportunity to do volunteering and gain work experience through this. You must be living in the boroughs of Camden or Islington, have less than a Level 2 qualification, not be in receipt of any other government funding such as New Deal, and be willing to commit to 100 hours of training over a ten week period.

None.

What is the level of the course?
Level 1

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
The course will cover how to become a volunteer, customer service skills, basic fire and public safety, conflict resolution, interview skills, history of the Olympics and Paralympics, team work and equality and diversity.

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Discussion, group work, pair work, individual writing, off-site visits, role plays and quizzes.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
Progress is assessed throughout from coursework and discussion done in the classroom.

Level 1 in Preparation for Event Volunteering, Personal Best

What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Homework is minimal though students wishing to complete homework tasks outside of the class are encouraged to do so. The course also includes offsite visits to musuems, fire stations, the Olympic Park and various other places with the aim of using practical exercises to illustrate the theoretical elements of learning that take place in the classroom.

What can I do after completing this course?
You will have a specially allocated Personal Best Advisor who can guide you onto appropriate training courses and help you to find paid work. You will also be expected to have completed 20 hours of volunteering, so you will be able to use this experience as a springboard into paid employment. Your advisor will work with you for up to six months after the course has completed.

Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
None, though students are encouraged to buy their own A4 ringbinder in which to keep their coursework.

Yes. Students must fulfil the following criteria : Under a level 2 qualification Living in the borough of Camden or Islington Unemployed or economically inactive Not on any other training such as New Deal Have recourse to public funding
