Course programme

Do you have a desire to make a positive impact on a child's life opportunities? Do you have the ability to motivate and engage children? Are you committed to continuous self-improvement? Do you want to acquire a deep understanding of how children learn and of the primary curriculum? Do you want to study part-time? Are you not able to commute regularly to Canterbury? Do you have family commitments or a part-time job you're not able to give up? If you’ve answered yes to these important questions then join us as a Canterbury Partnership Teacher! The BA (Hons) in Primary Education part-time pathway has been specifically designed to allow you to combine both face to face contact University sessions and home study. You will be expected to complete weekly directed study and self study from home through the University’s virtual learning environment and to attend University sessions spread throughout the year. You will also experience days in school and block placements. The pathway leads to an honours degree and the professional qualification of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling you to begin your teaching career as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) equipped with the necessary subject knowledge, skills and understanding to start your career as a primary practitioner who has specialised in the key stage 2 age range, though upon graduating you will be qualified to teach the whole of the primary phase. Through an integrated programme of academic and professional practice learning you will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of children’s development and apply this in your own classroom teaching. In addition you will have a strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and will have the confidence to teach in innovative ways that excite and motivate children.
