Once enrolled, you will receive a learning resource/information pack which includes two workbooks. Part A Unit 1 – Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care setting You will: Know how infection is caused Understand how infection can spread Understand the ‘chain of infection’ Understand the need to recognise Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI). Unit 2 – Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings You will: Understand the importance of personal hygiene Understand the importance of effective hand washing Understand the principles of using PPE. Part B Unit 3 – Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings You will: Understand the importance of maintaining a clean environment Understand roles and responsibilities in relation to cleaning, decontamination and waste management Understand the sterilisation process, effective waste management , how to handle laundry and how to safely handle sharps. Unit 4 – Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting You will: Understand the role of risk assessment in relation to infection control Understand the principles of infection control procedures.
