During the past decade, private equity has become an ever increasing part of the business landscape. Private equity deals account for about a fifth of all M&A deals - few companies can assume they are not potential targets of private equity funds. And, many companies’ acquisition targets are portfolio companies owned by private equity firms. Because of today’s uncertain and volatile public markets, private equity increasingly is supplanting public markets by providing a well-functioning private capital market for companies.
