About this course
You will need at least 4 GCSEs in the A*-E range, preferably to include two at grade C or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification such as a BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma.

You will achieve a minimum of a National Vocational Qualification

The topics you will study include:
· Cut hair using basic techniques (Level 2)
· Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp (Level 2)
· Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques (Level 2)
· Change hair colour (Level 2)
· Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
(Level 2/3)
· Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
(Level 2)
· Advise and consult with clients
· Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques (Level 3)
· Provide hairdressing consultation services (Level 3).
Optional units are selected by the College.
You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course. These will include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include more specialist awards that are relevant to the subject you are studying.
How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out through practical skills tests, online testing, observations while you are working and completed assignments and projects. You will be able to test your practical skills and knowledge in our commercial salons.
How long will it take?
This will depend on your initial ability and qualifications at entry, most of all, it will depend on your commitment, motivation and the speed at which you develop the practical skills necessary to achieve the occupational standards required at the level of study.

On successful completion you may:
Progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing, which
combines employment and study in an exciting and challenging
programme.
Or
Progress to further study in barbering, beauty therapy, nail services or theatrical make-up.
Or
Start an exciting and rewarding career, for example as a Graduate Stylist, Senior Stylist or Colourist in a hairdressing or barbering salon.
Achieving this qualification will give you the minimum equivalent
of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C and potentially equivalent of 2 A Levels.
