Course programme

A+ Programme for the Gifted and Talented
Some students need additional support if they are to fulfil their potential and secure places on the most competitive courses in Higher Education. The A+ programme contains specialist provision for those students recognised as being academically gifted and talented.

The innovative A + Programme is specifically designed for those students who have one or more academic abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of most others in their year group. Most will achieve at least grade A in the majority of their GCSE subjects and will have a particular flair and interest in at least one subject area.

The A+ Programme is there to challenge students and ensure they all have a real competitive advantage when its time to apply to the best universities and secure top career opportunities. But A+ is also there to nurture the talent and to ensure students remain happy and focused at College.

In addition to a customised programme students experience a host of additional activities and opportunities. These include specialist talks and visits, interview coaching to support university applications, visits and trips at home and overseas and work placements.

Students also complete an Extended Project. This is the opportunity to explore a topic of their choice in depth. Students are made members of Manchester University Library and will develop research skills significantly ahead of others in their year group. The process of researching and refining is as important as the final project, which might be a piece of writing, a performance, a piece of art, a short film or even a CD or DVD.

The Extended Project is increasingly valued by universities, many of which are starting to feature it in their publicity materials.
