What qualifications do I need?                        

• Entry requirements are five GCSEs grade A* - C, including Maths or English, or
• Merit or Distinction in a relevant BTEC Level 2 course
• All applicants will need to have a successful interview

What’s involved?

• Students will study the following mandatory units: Government Policies and the Public Services, Leadership and Teamwork, Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services, Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services, Fitness Testing and Training
• Students will also study additional units including Land and Water Based Adventurous Activities, Fitness Training and Instructing, Crime and its effects on society, Command and Control Techniques, Career Planning, Practical Team Sports, and Land Navigation by Map and Compass

How will I be studying?

This course is 50% practical. You will participate in numerous activities including fitness testing, training and sport, adventurous activities including an expedition away from campus. You will also participate in group discussions, presentations and assignment writing, visits to public service establishments, charity/voluntary activities and undertake work experience. Emphasis is on you getting hands on experience of public service life and developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Where can I move on to after this course?

The Level 3 qualification is equivalent to gaining three vocational A Levels and attracts UCAS points that equate to similar-sized general qualifications. Students can enter Higher Education through one of the Public Services or study one of the alternative degrees available nationwide. Students would also be well equipped to join one of the Public Service establishments.
