  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Level 2

  • Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.


What qualification will I receive?
Diploma in Reflexology.

Where can it lead?
Advanced Reflexology Diploma, employment in mobile therapy, health resorts, day spas and sports clubs.

What will I study?
Students will learn: how to assess clients for reflexology treatments, to carry out thorough consultations and give effective aftercare and home-care advice, techniques used in reflexology massage, locating reflexology pressure points, principles of Zone therapy, relaxation methods, anatomy and physiology, health & safety.

How will I be taught?
The college has a working beauty salon where students carry out treatments on paying members of the public. As well as individual treatments, students will also carry out at least four case studies on clients which involve a course of treatments on the same client and tracking the client's progress.

How will I be assessed?
Students carrying out treatments on the general public which is assessed by observations and oral questioning by their tutor and collection of evidence to build a portfolio of work. Students will have written tests throughout the year on all theory within the course. You will have to practice on each other until competent, no false nails and you must wear college salon wear. There is a kit to be purchased for this course.

All non-NVQ courses are now externally assessed at certain times during the year - these are mandatory to pass the qualification. Some courses have two assessments.

External verification takes place at the end of the academic year (June) and any student on any course may be requested to attend (even if your course finished in the Spring term you may be called upon to attend the external verification visit). The process by which students are chosen to be assessed, during the external verification visit, is completely random and carried out by the External Verifier from VTCT. Those who are chosen will be notified as soon as possible during the Summer term. VTCT make this compulsory to attend - further details are printed in the course handbook.
