Course programme

Religious Studies is for you if you are interested in moral issues and the way religion and philosophy have shaped our moral thinking; if you would like an introduction to theology; want to find out how traditional Christianity has responded to some of the radical movements of the 20th century.
The course covers a variety of topics in two main study units: in Ethics, we learn about different moral theories and their application to issues in medical ethics as well as war & peace. In 'Developments in Christian Theology', we look at some fundamental theological questions - what have theologians said about God and humanity? Is the Bible literally true or full of myths? We study Liberation Theology which started in Latin America in the 1960s as a Christian contribution to the fight for justice waged by the desperately poor.
Lessons are thought-provoking and varied, using a range of methods and resources. You do not need to be religious yourself to enjoy this course or do well in it; it is more important to be open to new ideas and willing to reflect on some very deep questions.
