BTEC Certificate in Skills for Working Life

Who is the course for?
This course is for students who wish to work towards a qualification in this vocational area but would benefit from a pre vocational preparation course to ease this transition. Students will spend the majority of time developing hairdressing/beauty skills and the rest developing essential skills.

What is the course about?
Students will be introduced to a range of subjects including; shampooing, styling, manicure, makeup, reception duties and client care techniques.

Will I need anything else?
You will need to provide an overall, sensible full shoes, a specialist kit and a recommended text book. A camera needs to be available for photographic evidence, and a file for your portfolio. You will need to be responsible for providing your own stationary.

How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a one year programme and requires attendance of several sessions per week. You will required to attend for a minimum of 90% of the course.

How will I be assessed?
All practical units you will be assessed in a realistic working environment. Evidence in the form of photographs and consultation sheets will be presented in a portfolio of evidence. Underpinning knowledge will be assessed through projects, assignments and written tests.

What opportunities will this lead to?
On completion of this course you many wish to apply for the NVQ 1 Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing qualification or consider other level one vocational qualifications.
