Aim The Diploma in Salon Services allows you to gain a valuable insight into the hair and beauty sector, helping develop the relevant skills and knowledge to start or further their career in the industry. Salon Services is aimed at anyone, at any age contemplating a career or career move into hairdressing and beauty therapy.
Content Hair, nails, make-up manicures, pedicures, cutting and styling. Do those words get your attention? If you are contemplating a career, or a career move into the hairdressing or beauty therapy industry then this is the course for you.

To achieve the certificate in hairdressing or beauty therapy you will need to complete 8 units (including a GOLA test). To achieve the combined certificate in hair & beauty, you will need to complete 10 units (including a GOLA test).

To achieve the diploma in hairdressing or beauty therapy you will need to complete 13 units (including a GOLA test). To achieve the combined diploma in hair & beauty, you will need to complete 13 units (including a GOLA test).

Progression/career opportunities
The natural route of progression would be to move on to either the Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy level 1 NVQ. Learners aged 16 or over may go straight to the appropriate level 2 NVQ. If learners are unable to obtain a suitable work placement, or have limited access to a realistic working environment, a level 2 Hair or Beauty Diploma is also a suitable choice.

Extra information You will need to buy a uniform and hair design kit. At interview you will be given full details of where you can purchase your uniform and equipment at a competitive price. Your kit will form the basis of your professional work kit and may be used when taking your own clients.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
