Continue to develop your saxophone playing and musicianship as a progression from level 3. This is our fourth year of instrumental study. You will also rehearse ensemble arrangements.

About this course

- Lead / direct a saxophone ensemble and tune it up

- transcribe simple saxophone solos.

Students will be expected to make space for regular practice. A music stand, metronome and access to a piano or keyboard are essential to your personal practice.

Course programme

- Structured use of all 12 major and minor keys
- focus on jazz styles
- Students will be encouraged to write their own exercises and share practice habits
- Regular opportunity to improvise
- Expand your repertoire of tunes.

You will be taught through weekly practice of technical matters, memorising tunes, section playing and soloing. Reference recordings will be in use, and play-along tracks. Technical practice week to week and learning of tunes is essential.

This course leads to Saxophone 4: module 3 next term.
