About this course

Students will preferably have a pass in A Level Chemistry (or an equivalent Level 3 qualification). Students with alternative qualifications will be considered at interview.

Introduction:
This course is designed for students with a Level 3 qualification who wish to continue studying chemistry to a higher level. The course can be used as a bridge to a degree level qualification. Students will be supported in their work by tutors throughout the course.

Study Mode & Location:
This two year higher education course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course consists of modules in the three main branches of chemistry, including analytical techniques. One of the modules looks at the role that chemistry plays in the wider environment. Students will also be supported in improving their numerical and IT skills. An individual research project forms part of the course.

It is hoped to provide students with some work experience in local industry, however, this is not guaranteed. Students will also have the opportunity to study NVQ Laboratory Operations.

Assessment:
A mixture of assignments, examinations and practical reports. The research project is assessed by a report and presentation.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
It is hoped that further modules can be provided to take students to degree level. The higher national diploma (HND) can also provide entry to a variety of university courses.

Additional Costs:
Text books. Laboratory Coat. Students studying the NVQ Laboratory Opperations will have to pay an examination fee.
