Getting secondary school children excited about languages is a wonderful gift to bestow. The quality of teacher training in secondary education was rated as "Good" in Ofsted's report for Initial Teacher Education 2016. The report identified that trainees "demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct".Our postgraduate certificate in French is unique in that it is an initial teacher training programme led and mainly taught by a group of schools in south-east London. We seek to develop skilled and committed teachers who can teach French as a modern language and promote a love of languages in secondary school education. Our programme attracts a diverse range of linguists, including UK nationals with language degrees and graduates in relevant disciplines who are native speakers. Both the postgraduate and professional certificate will enable you to gain an academic qualification (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).Training and experienceOur programme comprises two elements: subject and professional training (60 days) and school-based experience (120 days). A distinctive feature of our PGCE programme is that the majority of the subject training is taught by practising teachers in schools. By comparison with most university-led PGCE programmes, a greater proportion of your time is spent in schools.During your time with us you will develop the practical knowledge and theoretical understanding for teaching secondary school children. Our expert tutors will widen your knowledge of the National Curriculum as well as your skills, expertise and knowledge of your specialist subject. You will also gain a deeper understanding of English education so you understand the different influences and philosophies underpinning education.Ranking98% indicated that the programme prepared them for teaching learners across a range of abilities. 98% indicated that the programme helped them secure
