The session player (also called studio musician, session player, session man or sideman) is a musician summoned to play in the recording studio for a specific musical project or in support of an artist or musical group of which he is not a permanent member. These are generally well-accredited and virtuous professionals of the instrument, who are required to have a high degree of adaptability as regards the style, the reading of the score and the repertoire, in order to be able to quickly adapt to the context in which they must be inserted. It can be requested both for the execution, during the engraving phase, of one or more parts on musical pieces or soundtracks where its performance is necessary, or to accompany an artist or group during a concert or an entire tour. The name "session player", it derives precisely from tour or turn, meaning by this the turn of presence in the recording studio, ready to perform the music proposed from time to time.
