The aim is to demystify Shakespeare: to prevent poetic drama seeming an unscalable mountain and to make the student as comfortable with this kind of drama as he or she is with naturalistic work. Suitable for: Students wishing to work on an intensive Shakespearean programme with the LAMDA faculty.

Course programme

PRESENTATION

We make Shakespeare accessible through the disciplines of textual analysis, history seminars and above all instruction in techniques to help the development of voice and body with special emphasis on their relation to the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods.

Practical class will be given in:

-Voice (Pure and Applied)
-Movement (Pure and Applied)
-Singing
-Historic Dance
-Stage Combat
-Alexander Technique
-Textual Analysis and Scene Study
-Lectures on the social and historical background of -Shakespeare’s world are also provided.

The classwork will culminate in an ‘open rehearsal’ for students and tutors.

The course includes a 3 day visit to the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon and performances at London theatres.

Housing is available for all London workshops.
