Beginners Jewellery Classes. The beginner's course is based entirely upon learning the major silver jewellery construction skills. The 3 projects taught over the 13 weeks covers all the essential skills for silver and base metal construction, from design, fixing and decoration, which will enable you to undertake many jewellery projects without need of further training. However, our intermediate course will explore projects, including wax carving and casting, enamelling, resin, PMC, stringing and many more. Suitable for: beginners, all ages, from 13 to 80

Beginners Jewellery Classes

The beginner’s course is based entirely upon learning the major silver jewellery construction skills. The 3 projects taught over the 13 weeks covers all the essential skills for silver and base metal construction, from design, fixing and decoration, which will enable you to undertake many jewellery projects without need of further training. However, our intermediate course will explore projects, including wax carving and casting, enamelling, resin, PMC, stringing and many more.

The beginner’s course will include full instructive induction and training of all hand tools, torches, milling machine, mop head polishers, jump ring maker and many more…

The materials and consumables needed for the first project are supplied and is included within the course fees, materials for further projects are NOT covered, however, we give you all the guidance needed to source your own. On going consumables, such as pickle, polishing soaps and compounds are continuously supplied. However, we ask students to supply their own drills bits and blades etc. This is not normally necessary until you reach the intermediate course.

SKILLS COVERED:

After full induction on workshop health and safety and etiquette:

· DESIGNING

· SOLDERING/PICKLING

· FILING

· SAWING, (including a piercing saw project)

· BASIC HAND TOOL INSTRUCTION

· POLISHING

· FASTENING – ‘S’ HOOK AND ‘T’ BAR

· SURFACE DECORATION

· USING ROLLING MILL

· HAMMERING, PEIRCING ETC

· Materials supplied: all sterling silver required for first project, all consumables and sketch book.

· ADDED BENEFITS

· After first evening induction, if you miss any of the classes, you are able to join in on any other evenings to catch up. However, the catch up session must be within the 13 week term.

· Extended workshop time for Thursday daytime students, (without tutor).

· Discounted rates for hiring workshop for own projects at other times during the week/weekend. Only when not in use for teaching.

WEEK 1

    Introduction to workshops, tools and areas of procedures, risk assessments, health and safety. Designing ideas, sketch book use; discussing materials and initial start to the design process.

WEEK 2

    DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING BRACELET PROJECT: measuring techniques. Preparing materials

WEEK 3

Skills and techniques session: soldering, pickling and filing.

WEEK 4- 7

    Create and finish bracelet project, skills techniques, ‘T’ bar or ‘S’ hook fastening, cleaning polishing.

WEEK 8

    DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING RING PROJECT: Designing, drawing etc, introduction to ordering materials and supplies for second project.

WEEK 9

    Cut silver in preparation of project. Create decoration on sheet, using rolling mill etc.

WEEK 10

    Soldering ring; polish and finish.

WEEK 11

    DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING EARRING PROECT: Designing and order earring project materials.

WEEK 12/13

    Finishing and completion of all projects: Designing and sketching further projects ready for Intermediary course.
