Course programme

- Physical and vocal exercises and guidance on technique.
- Voice work to gain the vocal qualities and musical styles for music theatre
- How to broaden your individual repertoire
- Guidance on choosing suitable repertoire for your voice type
- Communicating with an audience
- Help with constructive criticism in order to gain a better understanding of the voice.

The class begins with a short vocal “warm up” and specific technical exercises (you may wish to book a practice room at City lit before your class if you need more time to warm-up than this lesson allows). Each class follows a practical workshop format (group and individual presentations with a professional accompanist) with discussion arising out of work in progress and exchange of ideas. There will be class songs chosen by the tutor but you will also be expected to choose your own repertoire from a specified period. You must work on your repertoire at home, daily practice is expected.
