The course requires and encourages you to develop a critical view of the world we live in and question some of the racist, sexist or stereotyped opinions that still exist in society. The subject will encourage you to contribute ideas and suggestions to class discussions and also learn classic sociological thought and theory. Sociology is becoming increasing popular and is one of the most innovative, invigorating and interesting subjects to study.

What will I study?
Sociology involves the analysis of a wide range of social issues. Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?

How will I be assessed?
AS: One January exam and one summer exam A2: AS + one January exam and one summer exam.

What can I do afterwards?
Many students continue Sociology or related subjects at university. In terms of employment many have ventured into the Media, IT, Teaching, Social work, Care professions, Police and even the Armed forces.

Are there any additional costs involved?
The costs would be field trips but these are voluntary. Students need to purchase a textbook and can also subscribe to Sociology review magazine.
