Course programme

YEAR 1
  • Culture and identity
  • Education
  • Research methods
YEAR 2
  • Global sociology
  • Crime and deviance
  • Sociological theory.
You will investigate issues affecting your life such as racism, crime and deviance, youth cultures, gender and class inequalities, family life and global development. We try to understand how society operates and why problems sometimes arise. You will not be told what to think, nor is it just a lot of facts to be learnt by heart. We encourage you to question things people take for granted and help you work out your own ideas.

Additional information

There are opportunities to attend student conferences at Sussex University or London and you will be encouraged to attend Feminist and Politics Societies. Sociology goes well with many other subjects including Psychology, English, Media Studies, History, Law and Philosophy.
