Course content
The course explores relevant issues including cultural and political aspects of development and climate change. Geography empowers students with knowledge to comprise more informed choices concerning human interaction with the physical environment. Module 5 - Geological Themes (Geological Evolution of Britain and Geology of the lithosphere).
Module 6 - Geological Investigation (two short pieces of coursework).

How Will I Be Assessed?
The course is examined in modules, three of which are for AS and a further three for A2. Assessment styles include coursework, written and practical exams.

What Could I Do Next?
Geology is offered as a single subject or joint degree in most universities, and an AS or A Level is also useful as an extra science subject. Professional geologists are employed in many fields including oil exploration and extraction, construction of roads and buildings, mining and mineral exploration, climate prediction and monitoring, and, more recently, satellite exploration and environmental monitoring. They can also get jobs in areas where graduate entry is required including civil service, banking and teaching.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
The course will include several local visits where transport and entry costs may be in the order of 5.00. The department arranges a one-week residential field techniques course, which typically cost between 150.00 240.00.
