Business Risk Management
You will be examining the application of risk management within a complex business environment. You will see how this concept is defined as well as the techniques and strategies used to manage it. Key business risk areas include finance, product and service quality, health and safety and the environment, and you will be investigating these topics to see how risk management strategies are developed.
Innovation in the Spa Industry
You will explore and analyse innovation in spa service industries and develop an approach to spa services that sees innovation, creativity, social and political change as essential components of the industry. You will also conduct research into aspects of diverse innovations within spa management.
International Marketing
We live in an interconnected world, so it's important to examine how organisations explore new market opportunities beyond national boundaries. As a result, you will become more aware of the technological, communication and transportation challenges businesses face and the options they consider when seeking a foothold in a new country.
International Spa Management
By developing your skills in spa design and operational issues, you will build upon your current knowledge in order to develop concepts for a new spa. Spa facilities will be considered with regard to purchasing decisions, sustainability and services management. You will consider how your spa designs will compete in the international market, incorporating strategies to support the global environment.
Research Project
You will have the opportunity to engage in an independent research project of your choice. You will have support with preparing your proposal and understanding the competent characteristics of good research. An appointed tutor will help guide you through this important and rewarding process.

Additional information

Teaching & assessment Teaching is carried out by appropriately qualified and experienced lecturers and a typical teaching week will have up to 16 contact hours made up as follows: Large group teaching - 6 hours of lectures in lecture rooms. This depends on the students previous qualifications. Smaller group teaching - 3 hours of teaching in smaller groups. Practical teaching - 4 hours of teaching in the salon environment. This will depend on the students previous qualifications. Tutorials - 3 hours being a mixture of personal, group and academic tutorials per week Individual Study In addition, you are likely to need to commit 20 hours a week of your own study time in preparation for teaching sessions and preparing for and completing assessment. UCB Online provides a 24 hour access to learning and support material. Assessment Assessment is designed to provide you an opportunity to demonstrate your strengths in a number of ways and so a variety of assessment methods are used. An estimated breakdown of the assessment for this course is as follows, however this will depend on student’s prior qualifications and module pathways studied: Coursework - 68% Practical assessment - 23% Written examinations - 9% Please note that the information provided above is indicative only and actual timetables and assessment regimes will be issued to students at induction.
