This course is offered as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. You will take 3 Higher Level subjects and 3 Standard Level subjects and complete components in Theory of Knowledge, Creativity Action Service and an Extended Essay.
Course overview
This course is intended for students with 2-5 years prior learning in Spanish, who may not intend continuing the study of the language beyond Diploma level. The main focus of the course is on the acquisition of the language and development of the four main skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) using a range of written and spoken materials.
Topics include:
- The Hispanic family
- Young people and their lifestyles
- Social and educational question
- Health issues
- Minority groups
- The environment
- Political changes in the Hispanic world
- Key events in the history of the Hispanic world
- Aspects of Spanish and Latin American literature
How you will learn
You will learn to communicate in various different situations, to use language appropriate to different situations and contexts, to structure arguments in a clear and coherent manner. You will also explore the culture of Spain and South America and be encouraged to show awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and international perspectives.
