BTEC National in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness

WHY TAKE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT, COACHING AND FITNESS?
Are you mad about sport and looking for a career in this area or fancy studying the subject at University? If so, then join this outstanding area and study a BTEC National. You can choose to study either a National Certificate or a National Diploma alongside other AS levels.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The BTEC Nationals cover a wide range of topics that explore sports development, coaching and fitness. The courses are primarily theory based and there will also be some opportunity for you to show off your practical skills. Each topic is called a unit. The National Certificate consists of twelve units and the National Diploma is eighteen units over a two year period. Some of the units you will study are; Body in action - anatomy and physiology, Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing, Health and Safety, Sports Development, Training and Fitness and Working with Children.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?

We will also encourage you to work independently and take responsibility for your own learning.
ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS I NEED?
There are no special qualifications required to join this programme, however we strongly recommend that you have good written and communication skills.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Through assignment work, oral presentations, posters, experiments and practical and work experience observations. All units in the programme are internally assessed and you will receive a pass, merit or distinction grade for each completed unit.
PRIESTLEY EXTRA
During your course you will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of national governing body awards, such as the Football Association level 1 award, the Rugby Football League level 1 Award, Community Sports Leaders Award and the CYQ level 1 fitness instructing qualification.
