BTEC National Diploma

Who is the course for?
This National Diploma is for people who wish to pursue a career in the sports industries such as coaching, teaching or sports development.

The National Diploma is also equivalent to 3 A levels.

What is the course about?
This level 3 qualification offers you an academic qualification.

You will complete 18 units in total including:

- Practical Sports
- The Body in Action
- Principles of Coaching
- Fitness Testing
- Sports Development
- Working with Children

You will also complete the nationally recognised Award in Coaching Studies in conjunction with the course.

Will I need anything else?
You will need to purchase a Riverside College sports kit.

How long & often do I attend?
The course is offered as a 2 year programme and you will be required to attend several theory and practical sessions each week.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in each module through the use of assignments set by the module tutor. Some modules may also require practical observations. Some units will be subject to external assessment.

What opportunities will this lead to?
Successful completion of this qualification can lead directly into employment in the uniformed services (army, police, fire), assistant sports development officer, sports coaching or fitness instructor.

Alternatively, you can progress into higher education, such as Degrees in Sports Science, Sports Development and Education, Coaching Science, Teaching (PE).
