This Sport Marketing course runs in 2016/17.
The sport industry is a dynamic sector characterised by growth, increased commercialisation and professionalisation. This course is designed to prepare you to be able to pursue varied employment opportunities by focusing on issues such as ticket pricing, fan relationship marketing, branding and sport sponsorship.
There is a growing demand from the sports industry for graduates with expertise in sport marketing and this course gives you a firm understanding of the sports industry, plus a solid foundation of management principles. You will learn the principles and frameworks related to marketing management from a sport perspective and understand how to apply such theory.
If you choose this course you will benefit from:
- practical experience developed from field visits and extensive volunteering opportunities within the sport industry that give you a platform to apply your sport marketing theory;
- opportunities to apply for work placement and industry experience through client projects and volunteering so that you build your professional networks and increase your employability;

- the opportunity to apply for a place to study for a semester in one of our associate universities in Europe, the United States or Australia;
- the opportunity to attend international seminars delivered by our collaborative partners in Germany, Holland and Russia;

Memberships shall be renewed in accordance with the relevant bodies’ standard review process and subject to the University maintaining the same high standards of course delivery.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?You will develop your skills in research, analysis and problem-solving, reasoned argument, decision-making, communication, information technology, teamwork and leadership.
At the same time, you will study a range of sport marketing subjects including Introduction to Sport, Managing People in the Sport Industry, Sport Marketing, Sport and Event Strategy, Sponsorship and Strategic Issues for the Sport Industry, Sports PR and Media.
You will also undertake practical skills subjects throughout the three years that will enhance your practical management and employability skills. These include a research topic and an optional internship topic within a company.
HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?Your course will be based on a series of group lectures and smaller seminars or workshops. Seminars and workshops are interactive and may involve hypothetical problem questions, case studies and the analysis of more theoretical issues. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: formal examinations 40%; coursework, tests, reports 25%; practical or project work 15%; group work 10%; presentations, posters 10%.

TEACHING CONTACT HOURSIn a typical week you will have up to 15 contact hours of teaching and this will break down as:
Personal tutorial/small group teaching: 3 hours of industry contact, field visits, personal mentoring and surgery hours each week
Medium group teaching: 6 hours of industry contact, field visits and group sessions each week
Large group teaching: 6 hours of lectures, seminars and workshops each week
Personal study: 22 hours each week studying and revising in your own time, including some guided study using handouts and online activities
