All film making professionals use storyboards as an essential part of their pre-production planning. It’s not only crucial for deciding on your shots and ensuring the narrative is realised effectively but it’s also invaluable for communicating your ideas to collaborators, funding bodies and clients. On this short practical course you will learn the importance of storyboarding in developing an effective sequence. You will learn about different shot types and camera movements, their uses and how to describe them in visual and written form in a storyboard. You will also learn how to incorporate notes and information about
sound, action and timing.

The latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.).

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Animation, Cartooning, Digital arts, Film, Graphics, Illustration, Photography and Web design.
