Course Level 3

Description
This programme of study is designed for adults who are working in a school assisting teaching staff approximately 10 hours per week. The course has a unit structure and is made up of 6 mandatory units plus 4 optional units.

Course Length
12 months.

What will I study?
The first 5 units are mandatory units:-

3 Help to keep children safe

18 Support pupils'; learning activities

19 Promote positive behaviour

20 Develop and promote positive relationships

21 Support the development and effectiveness of work teams

22 Reflect on and develop practice

In addition candidates select 4 optional units

How will I learn?
The underpinning knowledge is delivered using a range of methods including tutorials, group work and projects. Candidates are encouraged to develop the skills and knowledge which will allow them to work independently where possible. Practical activities will play a central role within the course. Time spent in placement is vital to the learning approach, where candidates learn from experience.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be carried out in your workplace at your request when you will be observed in a practical situation with children. You will produce a portfolio of supplementary evidence in support of your assessment.

Where could it lead?
Progression to related higher level or level 4 qualifications eg Foundation degrees, HNC/D Working with children and families.
