What is the course about?
This one to two year course will provide you with an understanding of textiles and fashion and the processes involved in design, making, manufacturing, decoration and construction of textiles and fashion pieces.
You can explore structured textiles, weaving, knitting, yarns and fabrics; dyeing, batik, tie-dye, hand painting; block and screen-printing; embroidery such as machine and hand stitching; and canvas work. You will learn about the purpose and different functions of textiles and the role that formal elements such as colour, texture, transparency and opacity play in designing and producing these. Historical, contemporary contextual studies in textile and fashion design are important elements of this course. This will support your practical work so that your responses show an understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.
Units are internally assessed and externally moderated. (There is an externally-set exam at the end of AS and A2.)
Integral parts of the course are staff-supervised visits.
