This course provides an exciting opportunity to extend your painting practise with guidance from an experienced tutor. Students will be encouraged to identify areas of interest and personal approaches to making paintings and given practical support to deepen their knowledge of materials and techniques. A look at recent developments in painting will be included in the course as a focus for group discussion and reflection.

About this course

Art materials are provided. You will be asked to look for and provide your own reference materials such as sketches and photographs.

Course programme

Over ten weeks we will explore a range of strategies for establishing and developing a body of work, plus look at the materials and methods of painting and the link between technique and meaning. A number of contemporary painters contrasting in style and approach will be shown. Students will be encouraged to work on and develop individual projects.

By demonstration, practical projects, handouts, one to one tutoring and group discussion and reviews.
