Course programme

This may be of interest to you if you are musical or if you work to support people who have music skills of any kind. Here is some info on a free autumn training course that is free to un or underemployed people who are already good at some type of music making, including singing.

This is 10 day programme for people who are already skilled musicians/singers/techies, which opens up a possibly new world of music group activities. There is a good living to be made doing this freelance and it may appeal to you, even if you have never considered it before. Many musicians find it is more rewarding personally than they had imagined. It is also enjoyable as voluntary work.

The 10 days will take you through an overview of the sector, and cover the range of skills needed to think about starting to do this work. Musical starting points and games, group work techniques and improvisation tips for creative music making in all abilities will be explored. Work with different needs such as disability, early years and more will be considered. All genres are welcome and you do not need to read music if not applicable to your music style. We hope that attendees will either begin work in this field or go on to further study, to which you will be signposted.

Dates are 80% attendance is needed across the programme: 5-6 Oct,12-13 Oct, 20 and 22 Oct, 26-27 Oct and 3 & 9 Nov. The venue is in West Croydon, close to public transport, Parking is also available. Please email to request an application form.

Complete the form and send it back in hard copy, signed, to Catherine Pestano CQC 44 Beaconsfield Road Croydon CR0 2LL. Help with fares and other costs may be available, please ask if you need this. We welcome enquiries from yourself or any of your contacts who might be interested and eligible, up to age 65. Please encourage anyone who may feel shy to give it a try. (Disability or illness not important and indeed may be an additional asset to the work). People who attend and seem committed will be added to our pool for volunteer and paid trainee opportunities as these arise. Please return the application form as soon as possible and no later than end Sept as the course start date will be missed! The places may go early so please get this to us asap.
