Course outline
The BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism is a full-time work related course that lasts for two years, developed to meet the employment needs and opportunities within the Travel and Tourism Industry. This course has excellent links with employers and a strong record of progression opportunities.
The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and you will be expected to take other complementary courses such as an AS or A Level to make up your full time programme.
The course is made up of 18 units. There are 6 core units and 12 specialist units which include:

How you will learn
Through a variety of methods ranging from individual research, one to one tutorials, videos, role plays, visits and group discussions. You will spend time learning by doing and some of your time working in the ICT suite.
How you will be assessed
The 18 units that you study are entirely coursework based and you will be assessed in a variety of ways. This will include written work and some practical assessments. The overall grade for the qualification is awarded to learners who successfully complete all units.
The course is made practical wherever possible. Customer service is the main practical based unit of work. Other units will focus upon areas such as tourist destinations and various sectors within the industry.

What you can do after this course
Successful students may progress to higher levels of study, such as HND or degree courses in Leisure and Tourism studies.
You can also gain employment within the industry with companies such as British Airways, Thomas Cook, Thomson Holidays, First Choice, BMI, Monarch Airlines, Aviance, Swissport, Servisair and Menzies Ground Handling.

Other useful information
As part of the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a number of experiences; including course related day trips, team building activities, and an overseas study visit. Past visits have included Fuerteventura, Tenerife, New York and Costa Blanca.
