About this course

You can start the course with a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above or alternatively a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Hospitality Travel and Tourism.

Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for school leavers who are interested in a career in Travel and Tourism. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace Travel and Tourism situations. The course introduces you to particular areas of employment and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced Travel and Tourism related qualification and employment.

A BTEC First Diploma is a Level 2 course and is the equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A*-C

The BTEC First Diploma in Travel and Tourism investigates all aspects of the Travel and Tourism industry. This is a practical and work related course, which consists of 6 units in total.

Exploring Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
UK Travel and Tourism Destinations

Specialist units (3 of which to be chosen by your tutor)

European Holiday Destinations
Exploring Marketing in Travel and Tourism
Business Skills for Travel and Tourism
Developing Employability Skills for Travel and Tourism
Planning Visits for Travel and Tourism

The course will enable you to develop specialist skills and knowledge in practical areas including communication, customer service, team working and public speaking. There will also be opportunities to go on a variety of trips and visits which in the past have included Manchester Holiday Show, Chester Zoo and different types of businesses.

Will I need anything else?
You may be required to purchase an atlas and certain Travel and Tourism books throughout your studies. However you will be advised upon this during enrolment.

How long & often do I attend?
This is a 1 year course, therefore requires full attendance through the week.

How will I be assessed?
Your work will be assessed through a number of ways including assignments (written work), presentations and role-plays. Some units are subject to external assessment. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What opportunities will this lead to?
Successful completion of this course can lead to the BTEC National Diploma Travel and Tourism course, or enter employment in a junior role in a travel agency or tour operator as a resort representative.
