BTEC First Certificate
Introduction
The BTEC first Certificate in Travel & Tourism is a practical course that provides an excellent introduction level for students wishing to embark on a career within the Travel, Tourism & Hospitality industries. It is the equivalent to 2 GCSE (A-C) grades and can be studied alongside another level 2 programme
Course Content
Learners must study three units: the core unit plus two optional units
Core unit
  • Unit 2:Exploring Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
Optional units
  • Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Unit 4: European Holiday Destinations
Entry Requirements
Students can enter the course by having one or more of the following
  • A range of GCSEs that are not necessarily (A-C) grades
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to study
  • A level one qualification or equivalent
  • All students must pass an entrance interview prior to commencement of the programme
Duration
Course completed over one academic year
Assessment
All units are assessed via coursework, that is set continuously throughout the programme.
These can be awarded:
  • Pass
  • Merit
  • Distinction Grade
To achieve the BTEC First Certificate all units have to be achieved at least to Pass level. A range of assessment methods are used including;
  • Written reports
  • Role plays
  • Presentations
  • Group work
Progression
Students can progress into travel & tourism related employment such as: travel agency work, hotels/hospitality, visitor attractions etc.
In addition many choose choose to progress onto the BTEC National in Travel & Tourism
