Who is this course for?
This course is for those who wish to study vehicle body and paint operations on light motor vehicles. It is designed to develop candidates practical hand skills and technical knowledge, enabling them to work in the Automotive Industry as a Painter or Body Repair Technicians.

What are the entry requirements?
Full time Employment in the Industry as an apprentice carrying out duties relevant to the trade specified. All candidates must illustrate capacity to achieve all the necessary qualifications.

  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle body and Paint Operations NVQ Level 2 Vehicle Body and Paint and Operations Level 1 Key Skills: Communication and Application of Number and Information Communication Technology, Apprenticeship Framework Certificate

Where can it lead?
On completion of the above qualifications, candidates can progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

What will I study?
The course covers both practical and theoretical practices and principles in motor mechanics. You will gain knowledge and practical experience and will learn how to prepare and apply foundation materials to vehicles, repair minor vehicle paint defects, remove, replace and repair vehicle non-structural body panels, valet vehicles and other set tasks.

How will I be taught?
The course consists of both practical and theoretical lessons. The College's workshops are equipped with the latest technology and resources to support candidates learning.

How will I be assessed?
You will take online test at end of each module. Assessors will assess your practical work both at college and in the workplace.

What support is available while I am on the course?
All apprentices are assigned to an Apprenticeship Co-ordinator who will be responsible for supporting the apprentice throughout the duration of their training. The Co-ordinator works closely with your employer to ensure that you meet the range of work required for the completion of the NVQ. You will also have regular tutorials with your course tutor. The College offers a comprehensive range of support services which included learning and language support.

What will it cost?

If you are 19 and over your employer will be required to contribute towards your course fees.
