Maths and English C or above grades. Level 1 Award in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and an interview. All students must attend an assessment day.

Aim This 1 year Level 2 qualification covers the technical needs for today†s motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of non-complex system faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
Content It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:
· Carrying out routine vehicle maintenance
· Removing and replacing: engine units and components
· Electrical auxiliary units and components
· Chassis units and components.
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. The student†s knowledge is assessed by IMI set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment; IMI set on-line†multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the student†s centre.
Progression/career opportunities
Employment in retail motor trade which could include an NVQ Level 2 apprenticeship.
Extra information All students will be required to purchase appropriate protective equipment (PPE) including overalls and boots. There is a £60 fee on all motor vehicle courses to cover the cost of your equipment including text books, files, pens, pencils, paper and polo t-shirts to be paid at enrolment.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
