Outline Content

This six month module is designed to meet the needs of a range of health care professionals working with the female population who wish to enhance their practice in relation to the care of the female population. It focuses on the management of female adult life, sexual health, contraception, breast and cervical screening, continence and menopause and the organisation and management of the services available to support this. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the health needs of the individual, health promotion and empowerment of the woman and on multi-professional collaboration.

Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the common patho-physiologies of the female reproductive system
  • Synthesise and critically appraise the principles underpinning approaches to assessment and management of different aspects of women's health
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of women's health issues including sexual health, contraception, screening, continence and the menopause
  • Synthesise, appraise and evaluate evidence from a range of sources to underpin the care and management of women's health
  • Demonstrate intellectual flexibility in the application of relevant theory to the management of women's health
  • Identify women at risk of female related disorders
  • Develop and evaluate preventative care strategies through the management of a well woman clinic
  • Ensure all interventions are underpinned by the ethical and legal frameworks which support professional practice
  • Plan, manage and evaluate an appropriate prescription of care according to individual women's health needs
  • Adopt a broad ranging and flexible approach to self directed study in order to organise own work schedule and meet required deadlines
  • Plan, manage, evaluate and critically reflect onperformance and the acquisition of new knowledge and skills as part of a lifelong learning strategy
