Work Based Learning - Expert/Specialist Practice CPPD
  • Overview

Health professionals are engaging in expert and specialist roles within an advanced practice framework. These roles include taking on clinical practices which were previously undertaken by radiologists and radiotherapists.

Examples of such work include interventional procedures, breast mark-up and planning for palliative treatment.

In order to provide opportunities for clinical staff engaged in, or working towards expert/specialist practice and who in the current climate within the NHS are unable to undertake taught programmes of study that necessitates time away from the workplace, there is a need for a module that will allow these practitioners to use their clinical work they are undertaking to gain academic credit.

The flexibility of the work based approach will enable more practitioners to undertake study that can lead to a credit bearing award without the need to attend formal lectures in the university. The work that individual practitioners undertake as part of this module will be embedded in clinical practice.

This module provides a framework for practitioners to gain credit whilst working towards competence in a specialist/expert clinical practice role.

You will need to ensure that you have a suitably qualified clinical supervisor who will be responsible for assessing the negotiated clinical competencies for the clinical practice being undertaken.

All students enrolling on this module must have the relevant scope of practice to undertake the module in the clinical area defined between the university and their clinical manager.
