Rob Woollen
Teacher
In his Master's Degree in Work and Wellbeing, Rob Woollen explored the relationship between "good work" and employee health -with a specialist interest in personal and organisational resilience. Passionate about providing strategies to enhance resilience that are both backed by evidence, and accessible to normal busy people, Rob speaks internationally on the subject at both professional and academic conferences. He continues his research as a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, and the Higher Education Academy.
Course programme
Who can be a champion?
Anybody who is interested in health and wellbeing, and wants to make a difference to the lives of their colleagues can be a champion. You will receive full training to understand individual and up to date views of health and give you the skills and confidence you need to help others.
What does a champion do?
The role varies not just between organisations, but also between champions. For some, the role is as simple as making sure that they keep colleagues up to date with the latest information from the wellbeing campaign. They do this through posters, team briefs and simple conversations. Others participate in regular update sessions with the wellbeing steering group, feeding back the views of their colleagues and helping to keep the programme relevant. Then there are the champions that plan, organise and implement wellbeing initiatives such as wellbeing days, fitness challenges, advice sessions and seminars. Whatever you bring to the role, you can be sure that you are an essential part of the programme.
What is the training like?
Our training is informal and interactive –think of it less like a class and more like a discussion with colleagues, helped along by some expert advice. You will work alongside your fellow champions to understand the many aspects of health and wellbeing and learn to plan, deliver and evaluate a structured programme that can make a real difference.
