About this course
You will need a genuine interest in working in the music industry
and have some experience of digital composition or recording.
You will need at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including
English (or a First Diploma at merit level). Entry is subject to a
successful workshop, audition and interview.

What will I be learning?
You will learn how to plan and create a music product; develop your sound recording skills and knowledge to a high standard, learn how to use industry standard software for composing and recording and explore the roles and responsibilities associated within the music industry. You will use software packages such as Logic, Reason and Pro Tools and work in a professional recording studio. You will have the opportunity to compose and market your own music.
How will I learn?
The course runs over three days per week at the Music Mill and
is a mix of hands-on practical work and academic study. You will
take part in lectures, demonstrations, workshops and live events.
You will be set projects that relate to industry specific situations
and develop your skills in professional settings. You will be given assignments that are designed to achieve clear outcomes, such as
how to create and market a musical product or performance, or
how to develop as a musical performer. These assignments will be graded at pass, merit or distinction level.
What else might I want to know?
This course runs in Newton Abbot. You will need to a purchase a media storage device and a pair of headphones for digital work. There will be opportunities to go on music related trips and activities. There is also a materials fee.
What can I do afterwards?
You can progress onto a music or media related Foundation Degree at South Devon College or pursue a career in the music business or creative industries.
