What will I study?
In the AS year you will study Russia from the reign of Alexander 111 in 1881, the Communist Revolution and Stalin's Russia (1881 - 1953) a period of dramatic and far reaching change with huge global consequences.(Unit 1 ) You will also study Conflict and Change - the Experience of Warfare ( the Crimean, the Boer and the First World War 1854 - 1929). Here you will consider the experience of the fighting forces, the response of the civilian population and the extent to which change occurred as a consequence of the conflict. (Unit 2 )
In the A2 year you will study Germany, from Kaiser to Fuhrer 1900 -1945 (Unit 3). Unit 4, the course work unit , offers you the opportunity to conduct your own research on issues relating to Representation and Democracy in Britain 1830 - 1931; for example a study of the impact that organised pressure from the public had on bringing about changes to the political system or perhaps the part played by Samuel Holberry in the Sheffield Chartist movement.

Three units assessed by examinations -one piece of coursework.
