All students accepted on these National level 3 courses are expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSE's at grade C or above. English is essential - for the Diploma a Science would be an advantage. A MERIT grade at Intermediate level is also acceptable.

Sport
This course has been aimed at people seeking a career in the Sports industry, or those wishing to go on to study at HE.
It has been designed to provide candidates' with high quality, industry recognised qualifications that recognise the skills, knowledge and understanding of the sport sector and the settings, job roles, principles and values involved. It accredits candidates' abilities to carry out a range of tasks and achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the work place.
There are two courses available at level 3 :
NATIONAL CERTIFICATE in Sport and NATIONAL DIPLOMA in Sport
The National Certificate must be completed before going on to study the National Diploma.
These courses are all course-work based.

What Will I Learn on this Course?

This course will allow students to develop knowledge and understanding of the Sports industry by using a variety of approaches that are relevant to the employment situation.
This will include presentations, group work, practical and written tasks.
There will be an opportunity to visit sports organizations to gain up to date information for your assignments and an opportunity to undertake a work placement.
Course Content and Method of Assessment

OCR Level 3 NATIONAL CERTIFICATE

This is a one-year course where students will study 6 units - 4 mandatory and 2 optional choices.
Mandatory units are: The Sports Industry; Sport and Society; Principles of Sport Coaching; Sport in the UK, optional units are Health and Safety in Sport and Training and Fitness.

OCR Level 3 NATIONAL DIPLOMA

This is a two-year course where students will study 12 units - 4 mandatory and 8 optional choices. Mandatory units are the same as the Certificate optional units come in the form of pathways SPORTS DEVELOPMENT and SPORTS PERFORMANCE. Optional units include: Work Experience in the Sports Industry; Career Pathways, Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Development, Sports facility Management and many more.
ALL units will be portfolio assessed and graded PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION.
Candidates must pass all 6 /12 units to gain full certification.
Points will be awarded for each unit as follows: PASS 1point; MERIT 2 points; DISTICTION 3 points

For the CERTIFICATE a total of 6 points is required (minimum of 6 passes) for a PASS; 10 for a MERIT; 14 for a DISTINCTION
For the DIPLOMA 12 for a PASS; 20 for MERIT and 28 for DISTINCTION
All work will be internally assessed and moderated and a visiting external OCR moderator will moderate the final results.

After the Course

Level 3 Nationals will allow progression onto employment at an operative or supervisory level; Take an NVCE specifically related to the job role; continue onto HE, HND or Degree courses in Leisure Management, Sports Management, Sport Science, Sport Development

Subject Combinations

Level 3 Nationals will allow an effective combination with a range of AS subjects. Popular combinations include Business Studies, Geography, Active IQ Assistant Fitness Instructor and Media Studies.
