Soft Furnishing - Using A Sewing Machine

Level: introduction

Course content:
Students will learn how to use the sewing machine controls, threading techniques, embroidery stitches etc. The course will focus on designing and making small, sewn items for the home
At the end of the course you will:
be able to use a sewing machine and over-locker
use various skills to make a sewing holder
make seams, put in a zip, & use different finishing skills
be encouraged to design and make your own projects
have completed several projects
have the opportunity to share skills and ideas

Course Structure:
Students will work on their own .
They will be given one to one teaching and at their own pace covering various subjects.
They will be given constant guidance and group teaching, to introduce new ideas via weekly group demonstrations.
Maximum 14 students

Course resources:
Students will have access to a workroom with Bernina machines and over-lockers. Irons and boards, scrap fabric will be available

Assessment:
Photos of completed work, displays, Self assessment with Individual Learning Plans

Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
None. Students need to bring a basic sewing kit, notebook and A4 folder
