The course is ideal for people wishing to gain an industry-recognised qualification in food preparation and cooking.  Students may already be working in the industry, or wish to gain employment at a later date.

This is a one-year part-time course designed to teach student's basic food preparation and cooking techniques to an industrial standard.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements, but students should have a high level of commitment and enthusiasm to learn.                             

What will I learn?
Preparation and cooking of:
  • meat
  • fish
  • soups
  • vegetables
  • poultry
  • to promote a healthier lifestyle students will also prepare and cook healthier dishes.

Ingredient fee per week - up to £10

In addition to practical work, students attend theory lessons, which underpin all practical work, and also cover:
  • Health and Safety
  • teamwork
  • food safety in preparation
  • cooking and storage

How will I be taught?

Through kitchen practical sessions, formal lectures and workshop sessions.

How will I be assessed?
Practical assessments, and completion of underpinning knowledge questions.

Do I need anything for the first class?
Students will be required to provide:
  • An apron, oven cloth, tea towels, large chopping knife, and small prep knife, vegetable peeler, desert spoon, teaspoon and suitable food containers to transport food home
