Coaching or mentoring is the art of improving the performance of others and is primarily done on a one-to-one basis. It may be done through discussion, explanation and/or demonstration of required skills or techniques, with the opportunity for the trainee to practise each area raised. The understanding of the way each individual prefers to learn is important, as with coaching 'one size definitely does not fit all'. Therefore, the approach, and coaching methods implemented, should be a consideration from the initial stages.

- Which methods to choose
- Principles of learning
- Learning styles â€" Honey & Mumford
- The coaching cycle

- Consolidation
- Giving feedback & encouragement for continuous improvement
- Opportunity to put theory into practice
- Each person to run a 20 minute coaching session on any topic (either work or hobby related) in order to demonstrate understanding of the coaching process.
Suitability
Managers or employees who are tasked with the improvement of performance of individuals, to apply proven coaching principles on a one-to-one basis.
Assessment
No formal assessment.
Candidates will receive a City College Coventry Certificate of Attendance
