Course programme

History is the study of change over time - however, is change the result of the efforts of leading individuals, or are larger social forces more important? This is one of many themes that students will study in the context of social change, such as the abolition of the slave trade in 1807, or political change, such as the unification of the many German states in 1871. We study the EdExcel syllabus: Paper 1 - (30% of A Level mark) Option 1D: Britain, c1785-c1870: democracy, protest and reform. Paper 2, (20% of A Level mark) Option 2D.2: The unification of Germany, c1840-1870. Paper 3, (30% of A Level mark) Option 37.2: Germany 1871-1990: united, divided and reunited. Paper 4 (20% of A Level mark) Coursework: Assessing the extent of Germany's responsibility for the outbreak of World War I (4000 words based on independent research, and the evaluation of the interpretations in a selection of extended historical works (defined as chapter or article length).
