AAT Diploma in Accounting - Level 3 Overview

AAT accountancy courses are designed to teach you practical skills that you can transfer directly to your workplace or aid your career progression.

An AAT qualification offers you a professional status that reflects the skills you’ve worked so hard to gain. So when employers see the letters MAAT after your name, they’ll know they’re dealing with a credible, up-to-date professional.

As a member of the AAT, you’ll have the support of the largest professional body for accounting technicians worldwide.

On the Level 3 course, you will learn how to prepare the final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, how to maintain cost accounting records and how to prepare reports and returns.

Entry requirements

You will need to possess AAT Level 2 in Accounting.

What does the course lead to?

Employment as a trainee financial or management accountant, accounts clerk or finance clerk would be possible career paths.

What will I study?

Accounts preparation 1

· Recording and accounting for non-current assets.

· Advanced book keeping, including final adjustments ready for preparation of financial statements.

· Developing your understanding of accounting systems and the environment and principles under which organisations operate.

Accounts preparation 2

· Preparing accounting records from incomplete information.

· Preparing financial statements for sole traders.

· Preparing financial statements for partnerships.

· Developing your understanding of accounting systems and the environment and principles under which organisations operate.

Costs and revenues

· Identifying why cost accounting is an important tool for an organisation.

· Different approaches to cost accounting and making informed and reasoned judgements to guide management and help decision making.

Indirect tax

· Understanding current VAT regulations and building your knowledge of VAT registration requirements, different VAT schemes available, penalties for non-compliance and the different types of classification of supplies.

· Performing the calculations needed to complete a VAT return.

· Submitting completed documentation in a timely manner while maintain an effective working relationship with the relevant tax authority.

Spreadsheets software

· How to use software for recording data in rows and columns, perform calculations with numerical data and present information using charts and graphs.

Professional ethics in accounting and finance

· Importance of ethnical duties and how to work within the code to ensure that the public can gain confidence in accounting practices or functions.

· Protecting both your and your organisation’s professional reputation and integrity.

What can I go on to study?

You can progress onto the Level 4 AAT qualification also available at the college.
