These courses are designed for students who have not reached the expected grade for other courses, who have experienced and interrupted education or who have faced difficulties through personal trauma or other factors, which have led them to be unsuccessful in completing their education while at school.
Course Structure
The Course Covers:
There are two courses which provide the opportunity of one year's study which include:
Basic Skills qualifications in Information Technology, Maths, English, Citizenship and Personal and Professional Development.
Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of vocations such as catering, retail, care, business administration, construction, and hairdressing to prepare themselves for further study or employment.

Qualification Aims
Autumn Course: Continuous assessment and review of performance.
Achievement will be rewarded with a recognised qualification in Personal Development.
Spring/Summer Course: Students will study
and may achieve the OCNW Entry Level modules in vocational and Functional Skills Subjects.
Assessments/Examinations
Continuous assessments and review throughout.
External examinations in functional skills will be sat in June
Vocational areas require a portfolio
Cost / Equipment
£30 contribution for portfolios and materials payable at the start of Course 2
(Registration /Certification is free for students under the age of 18)
A set of overalls and safety boots are needed for the Introduction to Construction classes. For those undertaking catering as a vocational option, chefs whites will be required. Students who chose hairdressing as a vocational option will be required to purchase a basic hairdressing kit.
