About this course

Candidates must fall within Industry requirements which are: minimum age 16, be fluent in spoken and written English, ideally have GCSE grades C or above, plus an aptitude for numeracy would be preferable. Course requirements are subject to industry standards. You will also need to have a strong interest and motivation to complete the course.

Air Fares, Ticketing & Galileo Level 1

About the course:
Scheduled air travel is one of the core product areas for the travel industry. This qualification is recognised and approved by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It provides a working knowledge of airlines, their routes, their timetables and fare structure. The Certificate in Travel (Travel Agency) course can be studied alongside this course.

Course Content:
The course will cover:
  • Fare quotations in GBP's and other currencies
  • Special fares/Child and infant fares
  • Fare construction
  • Ticket entries
  • Baggage allowance
  • Mileage system
  • Taxes
  • Rates of exchange
  • Global indicators
Equipment Requirements:
You will be required to supply adequate paper, pens, and a ruler to enable participation in all theory classes. Any travel books needed will be discussed in the class or at interview.

Assessment:
The exam format is a 2½ hour written examination. Upon successful completion you will gain 10 IATA points.

Progression:
On successful completion of Airfares and Ticketing (Level 1), students are encouraged to progress to Air Fares and Ticketing (Level 2).

Additional Information:
Attendance is part-time, one day per week.
