About the Applied A Level
What is an Applied A Level?
An Applied A Level is a double A Level which has a work-related emphasis and is assessed mainly on coursework. The Applied A Level in ICT is for people who already know they wish to pursue a career in this area. This is important because the course prepares you for employment more directly than most A Levels. However, more than half the students who take the Applied course decide to take a university degree before starting their careers.

Can you mix Applied A Level with other A Levels?
Yes, most students do this. As long as you are suitably qualified you can combine an Applied course with one or two 'traditional' A Level subjects chosen from those offered at the College.

What kind of assessment will I have to complete to get my qualification?
3 of the 12 units will be externally assessed through assignments set and marked externally.

The remaining units will be internally assessed through assignments set and marked in college, which are externally moderated by Edexcel.

What kind of student is this course suitable for?
You must have a real interest in and enthusiasm for practical ICT but equally important is the willingness to involve yourself in understanding the theory that underpins practical work. You should be able to handle a large amount of coursework and be very good at meeting deadlines. Your organisational skills will be tested to the full. A sound command of English is necessary and a willingness to undertake some numerical work.

What could I do with a qualification in this subject?
You will most probably aim to work in the ICT industry or at least have a career that involves quite extensive use of computers. You may very well want to go to university to study ICT further before you start your career.
